A Service of Remembrance
On the morning of April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City was changed forever. In a single moment, the rhythm of our downtown streets was replaced by a silence of disbelief and a wave of grief that reached every corner of our community. What began as a typical Wednesday became a day of shared sorrow, leaving us with questions that words could not easily answer.
The timing felt particularly heavy for the people of First United Methodist Church. Only three days prior, we had gathered to celebrate the hope of Easter. On that day we remembered the promise that light can never be extinguished by darkness.
Yet, by Wednesday morning, our historic sanctuary at 4th and Robinson, across from the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, sat in ruins. The stained glass that had held the colors of a century of worship laid shattered across the floor.
But as our city began the long walk of rebuilding, we were reminded that the story of resurrection does not end at the tomb. It is found in light after loss.
On this April 19, we’ll pause our regular worship to gather for a special Service of Remembrance.
In a city that knows both heartbreak and resilience, we come together to remember, reflect, and honor. Because even in the midst of loss, we hold onto this truth: the story of resurrection does not end at the tomb - it’s found in light after loss.
Join us as we create space for prayer, music, and shared hope. Whether you’ve walked this journey for years or are simply looking for a place to be still, you are welcome here.
