First Church is literally Oklahoma City’s “first church.” It began one week after the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889 on April 28th at the corner of NW 4th and Robinson. We have grown over the years, adding new people to our church family and new buildings to facilitate growth on our original property. On April 19, 1995, First Church was heavily damaged in the Murrah Federal Building bombing and was forced to relocate for three years as a new sanctuary and later educational building was constructed. Special thanks to Trinity Baptist Church in downtown OKC for hosting us for those 3 years after the bombing. Within 36 hours of the bombing, a banner was hung on our church declaring our “can do” spirit for the entire world to see, “OUR GOD REIGNS AND WE WILL REMAIN!” We believe God has called us to share the love of Jesus with the people of Oklahoma City. Our first Sunday back in our newly constructed sanctuary was Easter Sunday 1998. Our people come from all the surrounding cities, as well as the downtown area. We’d love too have you come and check us out as well!
First Church was fortunate to receive the postcard below from Lowell Joerg of Tucson, AZ.
