Sunday Classes

Each Sunday morning we have the opportunity to gather with persons of similar age or interest to participate in Sunday School.

Adult Classes

We currently have eight adult classes with varying topics being discussed. Sunday School is a way for a larger group of individuals to share in family life together at First Church. Our Sunday classes celebrate together in outings, parties, mission work, and service within the life of our congregation. Sunday school is at 9:30a.m. each Sunday morning on the 2nd floor education building. All Sunday School classes are open for you to become a part of a growing group of people looking to deepen their faith through the study of the Word. Try out a Sunday class this week and meet some friendly people between the worship services. I’m sure you’ll find a class in which you can grow in your faith, serve with love, and share your testimony passionately. Below is a list of the current classes and where they meet.

Bereans (Room 231)
Based on the faithfulness of The Bereans in Acts 17:11 who "received the message (of Paul) with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures...," our class re-examines our assumptions of truth through the clear lens of sincere Biblical analysis.  David Hancock leads us in our discussions as we seek to "rightly divide the Word of Truth."

Good News Class (Room 235)
Everyone is invited to share in this house of learning and participate in wonderful times of fellowship as we bring the scripture to life and share in God's faithfulness and grace.

Joint Heirs Class (Room 232)

A class for all ages, studying God’s word in contemporary language and dealing with real life issues discussed in an open-forum style. This class has active and lively discussions, while serving the church in every ministry.

Upper Room Class (Room 234)
An older adult class studying a scripture-based series of lessons. This class is active in all aspects of the church body through service, prayer, and fellowship.  John Ringgold, Gene Jordan, and Sallie Felton are the current class facilitators.

Intercessory Prayer Class (Room 237)
Intercessory Prayer is a class of dedicated persons who find their spiritual gift is interceding on behalf of others, situations which arise in peoples lives, or circumstances around the world. This class meets each Sunday morning during the Sunday school hour to pray for the requests from our Heartland Chapel, Prayer Line, and individual offerings from each weeks activities. This class is truly dedicated to the spiritual well-being of all persons. If you feel your spiritual gift is one of intercession, you are invited to attend this Sunday morning fellowship. The class is always looking for persons to share in this time.  This class is led by Frank and Donna Sisson.

The Gathering (Room 230)
Real people discussing God's Word as it applies to Real Issues.  This class is open to anyone.

Healing Waters (Room 229)
Open to all ages as we go through the scriptures with in depth study of the Word to empower us to live for Jesus, find comfort from the Word, fellowship and prayer for each other under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.  No hurt too deep, no heart too broken that Jesus can not heal.  Cyvil Burks leads this class.
