Parra FamilyThe Parra Family

Jose Luis and Susan Parra have served with Youth With A Mission in Creel, Chihuahua, Mexico since August 1998. They, along with their daughter, Jaynie, serve God among the Tarahumara people of the Copper Canyon area in northern Mexico. Their ministry is three-fold: discipleship of Tarahumara Christians; evangelism in Tarahumara communities; and participating in Bible translation into the High Tarahumara dialect. Their vision is to see the Kingdom of God established in the hearts, families, and communities of the Tarahumara people and to see God glorified by all who live in the Copper Canyon area.

Parra Family Update

July 16, 2010

Thank you so much for forming part of our prayer support. We are so appreciative of your partnership in sharing Christ’s love and truth with the Tarahumara people. Thank you for upholding our family and ministry through your prayers.

Thank you for praying for the Discipleship Training School. Our 9 students graduated on Sat., June 26. Each student shared their testimony during the service and it was so special to hear how they were touched and changed by God during the past 6 months. Please keep the students in your prayers as all of them returned to their homes to seek God’s will for their future. Pray for Manuel, Adelaida, Jaime, Lupita, Paul, Lily, Marco, Cristian, and Cristina.

José Luis met with the translation committee 2 weeks in June and 2 weeks in July. We praise God for bringing more Tarahumara Christians to work with the committee as they translate the New Testament. The second work week in June was one of the most productive and well-attended work weeks for the committee in many months. Please continue to pray that José Luis and the other members of the committee (Martha, Marcos, Jesus, Fernando, and Giltro) would be filled with God’s wisdom to know how to translate His Word into the High Tarahumara dialect. Please continue to pray for the Lord to fill the translators and Tarahumara Christians with urgency to see His Word translated into the High Tarahumara dialect. As part of his responsibilities as coordinator of the translation committee, José Luis will attend a meeting of the National Union of Indigenous Translators in Mexico City from July 25-29. Please pray that he would be able to represent the High Tarahumara translators well and that he will be filled with wisdom and grace during this time.

We ask you to please, please pray for our daughter, Jaynie. This year has been very difficult for her with regard to school and friends. We have prayed and sought God’s will for her and ask you to do likewise. She is growing and maturing well, and, after months of struggle, appears to understand 5th grade math better. However, we have been concerned by her solitude. There are no other girls close to her age at the base, and she does not have any friends in Creel. More important, Jaynie has not accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. We decided that it would be good for her to attend a summer camp sponsored by King’s Kids Mexico in Guadalajara; the camp runs from July 10-21. We believe that this camp will be a special time for Jaynie in her relationship with the Lord and a great opportunity for her to make new friends. The first week of the camp has been very difficult for Jaynie. Please join us in praying that she will seek God and depend on Him only. Please pray that His grace and peace will fill her during this time.

We are so thankful that you support us with your prayers and your gifts. Thank you for helping to equip and enable us to serve God among the Tarahumara people. Thank you for sharing Christ’s love with us. You are so important to our ministry and family. May the Lord bless you abundantly in Christ Jesus.

In Christ & for His glory,
José Luis & Susan Parra
